ABSTRACT
The protection of dressings and wounds is very troublesome when patients wash or take a shower. The situation is often worse when the dressings involve frequently used area such as the hand or foot. Most of the dressings must remain dry so that they could be keep clean and not contaminated. The patients always ask when and how they can shower. We advocate the use of low density polyethylene glove and pack with OpSite (Smith and Nephew, London, United Kingdom) to cover the wounds and dressings temporarily while showering. By virtue of its nonadhesive and occlusive nature, it offers good protection against water. The transparency of the film is additionally beneficial in protecting the areas at risk while keeping them visible. Constructed of a thin polymer, this glove provides also independent mobility of the fingers thus liberated hand may freely grasp a washcloth or scrub brush. It is easy to wear before showering and easy to remove afterward. This polyethylene products are inexpensive and they are readily available in every supermarket and household. We highly recommend this useful dressing protection method. (J Korean Wound Care Soc 2007;3:42-43)
