ABSTRACT |
Adjuvant chemoradiation therarpy has been used to treat breast cancer. Combinations of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy improve survival rate. But, unfortunately, radiation also has a negative effect on normal tissue. Sometimes, radiation induced skin injuries are not immediately apparent. Late effects of radiation develop months or years after treatment. Symptoms can include skin retraction and pain, ulceration and skin necrosis. Latissimus dorsi muculocutaneous flap has given large mass of soft tissue and muscle to be introduced into an irradiated chest wound. A case report of the successful use of an latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap for post radiation chest wall defect reconstruction is described. (J Korean Wound Management Soc 2011;7:92-94) |
