ABSTRACT
Hypertrophic scar is the principal problem of burn rehabilitation. Hypertrophic Scar and contraction after burn on pediatric Hands cause malfunction and growth disorder of hands. Skin Rehabilitation Massage Therapy (SRMT, OJO method) is combined therapy with massage, aroma, meridian pathway and lymph circulation. SRMT is known to reduce pain, pruritus, contraction, prominance and lymphedema after burn. This study was done to verify the effects of SRMT for hypertrophic scar on pediatric hands after burn. Certified nurse specialist performed SRMT on two pediatric patients (1.5 yrs) 2 times per a week, and care giver did home care on everyday for 6 months. Two pediatric patients recovered function of hands that they could clench their fists and stretch palms. Heights of hypertrophic scar were reduced from 0.52 cm to 0.11 cm and from 0.27 cm to 0.21 cm, respectively. Skin color of the scar changed to nearly normal skin color. SRMT Reduces hypertrophic scar and hyper-pigmented Skin Color, and improves physical malfunction due to burn on pediatric hands. (J Korean Wound Management Soc 2008;4:35-40)
