The Clinical Application of ScarclinicTM in the Treatment of Scar

ABSTRACT
It is widely used to treat hypertrophic scars and keloids with silicone gel sheet. Silicone gel sheet is easily applied and prevent scar pain and itching. The purpose of this study is to know if ScarclinicTM is effective in scar improvement. ScarclinicTM, which is one type of silicone gel sheets, was used in the conservative treatment of 18 patients for 3 months. It was applied to the various scars, postoperative hypertrophic scar, donor site of skin graft, burn scar. Vancouver Scar Scale was used to record scar character (pain, itchiness, color, redness, stiffness, thickness) every 4 weeks. All parameter in the Vancouver Scar Scale showed improvement after 3 months treatment. There was no patient who developed hypertrophic scar after 3 months treatment. The majority of patients showed good improvement on pain, itchiness and moderate improvement on vascularity, pliability. But, some patients only showed minimum improvement on pigmentation, height. Conclusively, ScarclinicTM is effective to reduce pain, itchiness, redness in various scar and to prevent hypertrophic scar. (J Korean Wound Care Soc 2007;3:83-88)
